Frequently asked questions

What are eyelash extensions and how are they done?

Eyelash extensions are single eyelashes which are bonded to your natural eyelashes individually. They do not contact the skin. Eyelash extensions come in a range of sizes, curls and colours and at Elegant Lashes we have hundreds of different combinations to create your set from. With proper after care your lash extensions can last from 2 to 4 weeks before infills are required. The process is very relaxing and many clients find they drift off into a light sleep.

What are the benefits of eyelash extensions?

If you want to be free of mascara, lengthy make up routines and would like to look younger, healthier and more beautiful then eyelash extensions will help you achieve that.

Furthermore, eyelash extensions are great for those with active, busy lifestyles. You can do many things in lash extensions, including swimming. And best of all, you can wake up in the morning and your eyes are already done!

Are eyelash extensions permanent?

Eyelash extensions are semi-permanent. Like the hair on your head, your lashes grow out and are replaced with new ones. As your natural eyelashes grow and fall out, the eyelash extension attached to it goes with it. Eventually your eyelash extensions will grow out.

How long do eyelash extensions last?

Eyelash extensions, with care, last 2 to 4 weeks before infills are required.

Will eyelash extensions damage my natural lashes?

Properly applied eyelash extensions by a qualified and skilled technician will not damage your natural lashes. If you decide to remove your eyelash extensions, visit a certified eyelash extension technician like Elegant Lashes to have them removed with no damage to your natural lashes.

Do eyelash extensions hurt?

Lash application at Elegant Lashes is a gentle process and most clients drift off into a light sleep. The lash extensions are bonded approximately 1mm from the eyelid and do not touch the skin.

Can I get my eyelash extensions wet?

You can get your eyelash extensions wet. For best results wait 2 hours after the eyelash extensions application. After that, you can shower, swim and bathe. For best results avoid getting any oil based products on the lashes for the duration of the extensions.

Can I still swim if I have eyelash extensions?

You can swim with eyelash extensions on.

Can I wear mascara if I have eyelash extensions?

You’ll find you won’t need to wear mascara if you have eyelash extensions. If you would still like to wear mascara, wear a water based mascara and use an oil free make up remover or face wash.

Am I the right candidate for eyelash extensions?

If you have a habit of rubbing your eyes, sleep on your stomach or have Trichotillomania (the uncontrollable compulsion to pull out your eyelashes) eyelash extensions may not be for you. But if you want to be free of mascara, lengthy make up routines and would like to look younger, healthier and more beautiful then eyelash extensions will help you achieve that.
How do I remove my eyelash extensions?

Because the glue used to bond the eyelash extension to the natural lash is very strong you will need to get them removed professionally or allow them to grow out. The technician will use a specific solvent and removal process. This way, your natural lashes will remain undamaged.

If you try to pull the extension off yourself, you will pull your natural lash out and this may, much like continually plucking brows, halt regrowth. This is strongly not recommended. If you are unable to visit a technician, gently rubbing a safe oil based product on the lashes may help weaken the bond somewhat.
